Our Story
Virginia Cullane's love for reading began at an early age. An avid book reader all her life, she started searching for books professionally in March, 1985. Virginia also began selling books via catalogue from the farm. A purpose-built book-room was erected on the farm, before Virginia opened her first secondhand bookshop in 2002 in Blatchford St, Canowindra, NSW.
Virginia's business continued to grow & in 2008, moved to larger premises at 81 Gaskill St, Canowindra. Virginia excelled at & loved book-searching, finding almost any book requested by her clients, including rare and out-of-print books. Virginia's passion was helping others, which she combined with her love of books, reading, and education.
Sadly, Virginia was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer in November, 2013 and died in August, 2014. The business is now owned & operated by Virginia's daughter Jenny Cullane, who is also an avid reader because of Virginia's influence. The business will always remain 'Virginia Cullane Books' in honour of her mother.
A Lasting Legacy
Jenny sees herself as the caretaker of her mother's lovely bookshop in Canowindra. Jenny continues to honour her mother's wonderful legacy by also offering a free booksearch service. We welcome all book lovers to our shop, whether you're interested in fiction or non-fiction. Our shelves are stocked with used books including local history, military, art, literature, agriculture, transport, technical books & fiction.
